Suggestions on how we can love the poor in honor of our new pope

March 16, 2013

The more I learn about Pope Francis, the more I fall in love. Some have taken to calling him “Papa Francisco” and I’m prone to do this too. I look forward eagerly to Tuesday, March 19, the feast of St. Joseph, when he is installed. It’s my birthday and I couldn’t think of a better gift!

In this short video, Papa Francisco explains how he decided upon the name of Francis:

He brought a tear to my eye and I felt that same feeling of hope that I felt the day he was revealed to the world. God has indeed bestowed upon us a great gift!

Lisa Hendey, best selling author The Handbook for Catholic Moms and A Book of Saints for Catholic Moms has written a wonderful piece on practical ways to love the poor in honor of our new pontiff. How appropriate that this all should be happening during Lent. I invite you to read her column, Following Papa Francisco’s Lead: 5 Easy Ways to Love the Poor in Honor of His Pontificate on Patheos.com.
